Beijing, August 25 (Xinhua) -- China's agricultural authorities have unveiled a new plan to build a comprehensive market system for agricultural products at their production origins, according to information released on Sunday.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently issued the "15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the National Agricultural Product Origin Market System." The plan sets a target for 2030, aiming to establish a modern system that aligns with industrial needs, seamlessly connects production with demand, operates with high efficiency, and facilitates both domestic circulation and international connectivity.

This system is designed to strengthen the supply guarantee of agricultural products and enhance the capacity to support and serve smallholder farmers. The origin market system, based in agricultural production areas, provides integrated services such as trading and distribution, processing and storage, logistics and delivery, price information, and brand marketing. It effectively bridges production and consumption, serving as a vital component of China's agricultural product market and distribution network, while underpinning the stable and secure supply of agricultural goods.

According to the plan, by 2030, the layout of agricultural product wholesale markets at origin points will be more rational, with continuous improvements in trading, cold-chain, and logistics infrastructure. The information monitoring and early-warning system for agricultural products will be further refined, significantly enhancing its ability to support decision-making and guide market expectations. Additionally, the standardization, digitalization, and green development of the origin market system will be elevated to a higher level.

To drive the transformation and upgrading of origin markets, strengthen marketing services, and boost monitoring and early-warning capabilities, the plan outlines a series of specific measures. These include optimizing and upgrading wholesale markets at production sites, accelerating the development of cold-chain logistics facilities, and establishing comprehensive service stations for rural production and sales. The plan also emphasizes enriching consumption scenarios by integrating agricultural product consumption into cultural tourism and sports events, thereby expanding the market for green and high-quality products. Furthermore, it calls for enhanced information collection from key wholesale markets in production, sales, and distribution hubs, as well as from large-scale farming and breeding enterprises, to monitor product flows, pricing, sales volumes, cost-benefit ratios, and inventory levels.
