Shares of AGTECH HOLDINGS (08279) continued their upward momentum, climbing more than 6% in early trading before settling at a 5.17% gain, with the stock trading at HK$1.525 and turnover reaching HK$35.71 million. The latest rally comes as investors react to the official establishment of the Hong Kong Gold Exchange Trading System Company Limited (HKGXTS), announced on August 18, which is set to revolutionize the city's gold trading infrastructure.
The newly formed entity has outlined its mission to focus on building Hong Kong's gold trading systems and related fintech infrastructure, partnering with technology heavyweights such as Hengsheng Electronics Co., Ltd. and Alibaba Cloud to develop a secure, stable, and internationally competitive gold trading and clearing platform. This collaboration aims to integrate cutting-edge technology into the city's bullion market operations, enhancing both efficiency and global reach.
HKGXTS Chairman Zhang Dexi emphasized that Hong Kong is actively advancing its position as an international gold trading hub, with a strong push to upgrade the city's gold market infrastructure. The new trading system is slated for trial operations in the first quarter of 2027. The initial phase will consolidate all existing products, trading, settlement, clearing, and services of the Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) into a unified system platform, laying the groundwork for future expansion into additional electronic services, including gold tokenization and related peripheral offerings.
